Ashland solvers’ expertise in controlled release polymers results in tailored release profiles for injectable and oral drugs that meet your requirements for active pharmaceutical ingredient delivery.
key products
viatel™ bioresorbable polymers are the building blocks for developing long-acting injectable depots, an established technology to improve therapeutic efficacy and patient compliance. All viatel™ bioresorbable polymers can be custom produced for a tailored solution. In addition, viatel™ ultrapure are high-purity polymer grades optimized for sensitive drug compounds, enabling improved stability and longer, more consistent release profiles in LAIs.
vialose™ trehalose dihydrate is a high‑purity excipient with low bioburden and endotoxin limits intended for injectable formulations, while vialose™ sucrose is a high‑purity, multi‑compendial, beet‑derived excipient for pharmaceutical use, including parenterals.
Together, they help stabilize proteins by inhibiting degradation and minimizing aggregation. We will soon launch vialose™ mannitol to further expand our portfolio.
blanose™ sodium carboxymethylcellulose is a high‑purity, water‑soluble anionic polymer available in a wide range of grades, enabling tailored functionality for pharmaceutical formulations.
It supports consistent performance in oral solid dose applications through properties such as viscosity control, stability and reliable formulation behavior.
klucel™ xtend hpc has been shown to match the release profile of widely used hypromellose controlled release formulations at half the polymer concentration. The highly reduced polymer concentration achievable with klucel™ xtend HPC offers the possibility of smaller pills or higher dosage. This product is designed to deliver unsurpassed process versatility and release profile efficiency.
benecel™ xrf hpmc are fine particle grades designed for optimal performance in large-scale, high speed tableting. This product provides better powder flowability, produces robust tablets under high-throughput continuous manufacturing conditions and for challenging multi-layer sustained release tablets, and with lower nitrosamine levels, improves formulation stability by minimizing the potential for interaction between API and excipients.

Advances in Long-Acting Injectables: In-Situ Forming Depots and Microspheres for Controlled Drug Delivery
date: Monday, July 6, 2026
time: 12:30-4:30pm
room: Auditorium 2
workshop overview
The Advances in Long-Acting Injectables workshop at the CRS Annual Meeting 2026 provides a focused, industry-informed exploration of in-situ forming depots and microsphere-based systems—two key technologies in modern controlled drug delivery. Bringing together industry experts, the workshop bridges the gap between academic research and real-world product development, demonstrating how innovative concepts are translated into scalable, commercially viable therapies.
scientific focus
The program explores the science and application of LAI technologies, with emphasis on bioresorbable lactide–glycolide polymers and their role in controlling drug release. It covers formulation strategies for in-situ depots and microspheres—from early-stage development and screening to polymer selection—as well as key challenges in scale-up, manufacturing, quality control, and regulatory (CMC) considerations.
key learnings
Participants will gain practical insights into the impact of polymer properties on drug release and performance, key decision-making in early-stage formulation development, scale-up from laboratory to manufacturing, and the influence of regulatory and commercial considerations.
